19yo woman charged following Dickson carjacking

A 19-year-old woman will face court today after allegedly threatening two people with weapons and stealing the car they were travelling in.

About 12pm yesterday, Sunday 23 March, the woman got into a parked car in Dickson and threatened the occupants with weapons, demanding to be driven around.

The driver complied but after a short period, the woman got into the driverโ€™s seat and drove off with two occupants in the vehicle.

Police allege the woman then began driving dangerously through Canberra, crossing onto the wrong side of the road and driving at excessive speeds.

About 4pm, the two occupants escaped the car in Oaks Estate and about 6pm, police located the vehicle parked in an apartment complex in Reid.

The 19-year-old woman, who is currently on bail for similar offences, was located nearby at about 9.50pm and arrested.

She will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, charged with offences including forcible confinement, driving a motor vehicle without consent, driving while unlicenced, possessing an offensive weapon with intent, and reckless threat to inflict grievous bodily harm.
