40-year-old man charged after strangling two teenagers

A 40-year-old man will face court today after allegedly strangling and assaulting two teenagers last night.

At about 5:30pm, Tuesday 25 March, a teenage girl visited the home of a relative in Kambah with her friend.

Police allege the relative โ€“ the 40-year-old man โ€“ gave her alcohol and later that evening, strangled her unconscious.

The other teenager attempted to intervene and when they both tried to leave, the man allegedly threw one against a bench and pushed the other against a wall.

Both managed to escape and were treated nearby by ACT Ambulance Service paramedics before being taken to hospital for further treatment.

The man was arrested early this morning, Wednesday 26 March, and was charged with choking a person and rendering insensible, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and aggravated common assault.
