Desperately searching for activities to keep the kids occupied this Easter long weekend? Look no further! Here at Canberra Daily, we’ve complied a list of both indoor and outdoor projects, crafts, and self-motivated activities that will keep the kids entertained for hours.
Enjoy – and Hoppy Easter!
Plant flowers

Revel in the final days of Canberra’s slightly warmer weather by spending some time in the garden and planting some flowers. Easter is traditionally a time for growth and renewal, symbolising the resurrection of Jesus, so planting flowers is a perfect embodiment of the sentiment.
Instead of buying Hot Cross Buns, make them!

This may be one of the messier activities, but there’s not much better than the homemade version of your favourite foods. Sweet, sticky, and fluffy goodness … the kids will love making and eating their own Hot Cross Buns! For our recent Taste feature in Canberra Daily magazine, we included a recipe for a pull-apart hot cross bun that was simply divine. Why not try it yourself: Choctails and Hot Cross Bundt.
Make an Easter Egg hunt

Look, it’s an oldie but a goldie. You could spice up this classic Easter tradition by creating a night version using flashlights, making the hiding spots extra difficult by including rooms in the house (just remember where you hid them), or invite the neighbours and make it a whole street egg-stravaganza.
Little Bunnings Big Egg Hunt

Looking for an indoor activity to do with the kids during ‘quiet time’? Chick this out from Bunnings – it’s an online Easter Egg Hunt that will keep all ages entertained (even yourself). Search for little eggs Where’s Wally-style across the Bunnings ‘store’ and try to discover all 30, and you can visit the ‘paint section’ to add colour to the virtual colouring-in, along with other fun tasks.
Paint rock chicks and hide them across Canberra

This idea was inspired by the Hide and Seek Rock Game that was a light in the darkness throughout COVID-19 lockdowns, and it’s such a sweet way to spread some kindness across the ACT. Why not paint some rocks with cute little Easter themes and take the kids on a walk to hide them in plain sight for others to find? It could make someone’s day, and it won’t cost you an arm or a leg – all you need is some paint and some small rocks from the backyard.
I’ll leave you with one final dad joke to make your kids cringe: What should all the eggs do when the egg hunt starts?
Scramble!
… C’mon, my Easter puns are really bunny.
