ACT Bar president Rebecca Curran appointed Federal judge

ACT Bar president Rebecca Curran has been appointed as a Judge of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, the Commonwealth-Attorney General announced today.

Ms Curran was called to the Bar in 2012. Before then, she had a distinguished career in private practice in Canberra and Brisbane, and served as a Deputy Registrar of the Family Court of Australia.

At the Bar, Ms Curranโ€™s practice has included family law, wills and estates, and coronial inquests. Ms Curran also practised as a nationally accredited mediator, and her services were highly sought after in family law, institutional abuse, personal injury, and administrative law.

Ms Curran has been a formidable contributor to the ACT Bar: she was on Council for the past six years and chaired the Family Law and Women Barristers Sub-Committees.

In 2022, she was the first woman to be elected to the role of ACT Bar President.

The ACT Bar warmly congratulates Ms Curran on her new role.
