The ACT Government has announced budget funding for fund health, education, housing, and cultural initiatives for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Canberrans.
The Budget includes $1.2 million over four years for a culturally informed perinatal mental health “Safe Space” service and $1.9 million to support Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA)’s Health Academy program, training 30 students each year. Previous graduates have become nurses and physiotherapists.
Yerrabi Yurwang Child and Family Aboriginal Corporation will receive $500,000 to build a 29-dwelling townhouse development in Moncrieff and $3 million to buy the site.
Other measures include $754,000 for a truth-telling project and $1.8 million for two independent justice advisors and expanding the capacity of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body.
Both Boomanulla Oval and Ngunnawal Bush Healing Farm will transition to community control.
Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations will deliver more than $8 million of initiatives.
