ACT federal candidates to speak at Conservation Council forum

Candidates contesting the upcoming Federal Election in ACT seats have been invited by the Conservation Council ACT Region to participate in an election forum on Thursday 28 April in Turner.

The Council invites Canberrans to join them as they outline their priorities for climate action and biodiversity protection, and hear from candidates and parties about their policies.

The forum will be held at the White Eagle Polish Club, 38 David Street, Turner from 6.30pm to 8pm on Thursday 28 April, in the lead up to election day on Saturday 21 May.

Registration to the forum is essential; any ACT residents who have a burning question can submit it when they register – questions will be collected, collated and curated for the night.

According to the Conservation Council ACT Region, “every election is important for the environment, but this election, as we face the direct and repeated impacts of climate change, and come to terms with the challenges of maintaining and enhancing biodiversity, is especially important”.

“We need strong action on climate change, an end to investment in and expansion of fossil fuels, and strong national laws to protect nature,” the Council said in a statement.

Organisers say the forum is shaping up to be a good event, with most major parties and candidates confirmed.

Canberra residents can register online at conservationcouncil.org.au
