The ACT Government has released its CBR2030 strategic economic development framework, outlining priorities to accelerate knowledge-based growth, support the transition to a net-zero economy and deliver major infrastructure for a growing city.
Chief Minister Andrew Barr said the plan builds on earlier economic strategies and aims to ensure Canberra remains “one of the world’s best places to live”.
“CBR2030 is about shaping a city that works for everyone,” he said. “Powered by innovation, education and strategic infrastructure investment, Canberra has seen consistent growth, record job creation and a surge in new businesses… Through this new framework, we seek to enable our economy to reach 300,000 jobs by 2030.”
The framework is built around four “missions”:
- Mission 1: A city that continues to give you back time
- Mission 2: A climate-ready city, leading Australia’s net zero future
- Mission 3: Continued knowledge-based economic growth
- Mission 4: Building Canberra’s future today
It highlights the role of integrated precincts that combine jobs, education and cultural activities, along with city-shaping projects designed to enhance both economic opportunity and community life.
The Canberra Liberals criticised the announcement, describing it as “another glossy vision” without clear pathways for delivery.
Opposition Leader Mark Parton said the Government had a poor record of meeting its own housing and economic targets.
“The Government talks up liveability, housing and economic transformation but offers no credible path to meet its own deadlines,” he said.
The Liberals pointed to the ACT Government’s 2024 commitment to deliver 30,000 new homes by 2030, arguing current approval rates fall far short.
The full CBR2030 strategy is available on the ACT Government website.
