The ACT Government has opened applications for a $922,000 grant to design and deliver a new after-hours palliative care medicines service, aiming to improve access to urgent medication for people receiving end-of-life care at home.
The Palliative Medicines in Community Pharmacy Project Grant will fund a community organisation to work with seven pharmacies, GPs, and other health providers to establish a Community of Practice and an evaluation framework for the service.
Health minister Rachel Stephen-Smith MLA said timely access to specialised medicines could be critical for people whose symptoms change rapidly.
The chosen organisation will partner with pharmacies, GPs, and other health providers, and suport pharmacy staff with training, peer support, and capability development in palliative care. The service will also help pharmacies extend hours an explore options for delivery, stocking and storage of medicines.
The initiative is funded through the 2025-26 Budget as part of a broader effort to strengthen community and home-based palliative care.
Applications close on Wednesday 28 January 2026. Eligible applicants include ACT-based non-government service providers with experience in primary health, communities of practice, and palliative care. Further information is available on to the ACT Government website.
