A man has died following a crash on the Barton Highway near Yass this afternoon, which has closed the road in both directions.
Emergency services were called to Jeir, about 30km south of Yass, just after 1:40pm today, Tuesday 12 August, after a truck and car collided.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 78-year-old driver of the car, but he died at the scene. The truck driver, a man believed to be in his 40s, was also treated at the scene before being taken to Yass Hospital for mandatory testing.
Officers from The Hume Police District have established a crime scene, and the Barton Highway remains closed between Nanima Road and Murrumbateman Road.
The ACT Emergency Services Agency said the road will be shut “for some time” and urged motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes. ACT Ambulance Service, ACT Fire and Rescue, NSW Rural Fire Service and NSW Police all attended the scene.
