Bonner motorcyclist caught 51km/h over speed limit

A 50-year-old Bonner man has lost his driver licence for 180 days after he was detected travelling 51km/h over the speed limit in Canberra’s north yesterday.

At about 11:20am on Thursday 23 July, ACT Policing officers were conducting patrols on Horse Park Drive, Harrison when they observed a motorcycle travelling at a high speed.

Police checked the speed of the motorcycle using radar and detected it travelling at 131km/h in a signposted 80km/h zone.

The rider was stopped by police and issued with a traffic infringement notice totalling $1,891, and he incurred six demerit points.

His driver licence was also suspended for 180 days.

ACT Policing reminds all motorists that excessive speed is one of the major contributors to serious and fatal collisions on ACT roads.

Police will continue to target dangerous driving behaviour anywhere, anytime across Canberra.
