Canberra gets shoutout in new US Netflix series

The โ€œMayor of Canberraโ€ is what viewers can hear when watching new Netflix White House murder mystery series The Residence.

In a clip shared on Netflixโ€™s social media channels captioned Shout out to AUSTRALIA! the seriesโ€™ protagonist Cordelia Cupp (played by Orange is the New Black actress Uzo Aduba), says โ€œIโ€™m trying to solve a murder and Iโ€™ve got the director of the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation), the Prime Minister of Australia and Kylie Minogue breathing down my neck.โ€

Kylie says โ€œI know thereโ€™s a lot of grumbling, but not the Australians! I have sung Canโ€™t Get You Out of My Head seven times.โ€ She appears in 6 episodes of the 8-part mini series.

Later in the clip, Larry Dokes (played by Isiah Whitlock Jr.) is heard saying โ€œIโ€™ve just spent 10 minutes fending off a very drunk Mayor of Can-ber-ra.โ€

The premise of the show: A brilliant, eccentric detective must solve a murder in the White House residence โ€” where the staff and guests at a state dinner are all suspects.

The mini-series is executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, who is also EP for some of the biggest shows in the world including Greyโ€™s Anatomy, Bridgerton and How to Get Away with Murder.
