Canberra grandparents support charities with Lotto winnings

A Wanniassa couple will share their $1.25 million Saturday Lotto winnings with family – and donate more to the charities they support.

The Canberra grandparents held one of four division one winning entries in Saturday Lotto draw 4567, which was drawn on Saturday, 26 April 2025. Each division one winning entry pocketed $1,259,119.90.

The husband said the win was surreal.

โ€œItโ€™s a very surreal feeling. Weโ€™ve been on a rollercoaster of emotions to say the least!” he told a Lott official.

The wife said told the Lott official the couple had a number of charities they donated to throughout the year.

“Mainly childrenโ€™s charities or school-based charities like Starlight Children’s Foundation and The Smith Family, but with this, weโ€™ll be able to give much more!โ€ she said.

โ€œOur family will also benefit so much. We want to take our children and grandchildren on a big family holiday.

โ€œWeโ€™ll also put some away for our grandchildrenโ€™s university fees when the time comes around.”

She said the couple would also meet with a financial advisor.

“Itโ€™s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity so we wonโ€™t be wasting it,” she said.

โ€œI always check our numbers on Sunday morning and do a crossword.

“When I saw all our numbers come up on game one, line one, I thought โ€˜this canโ€™t be rightโ€™.

โ€œI called out to my husband to double check and sure enough, he was seeing the same thing as me.

โ€œI even checked my bank account because I was scared Iโ€™d only picked the numbers and forgotten to actually buy the ticket!

โ€œI’m usually a glass-half-full person, but with something this big, I couldnโ€™t help thinking it might be my Murphyโ€™s Law moment.

โ€œIโ€™m so glad now itโ€™s confirmed, we can get excited and let the win sink in!

โ€œI always get a QuickPick but strangely enough, there were some special numbers in the line that won.

Their winning ticket was purchased online from The Lott website.

It comes just a month after a Casey woman became $2.5 million richer after purchasing a lottery ticket then forgetting she had entered, which came just four days after a group of mates, also from Casey, won $100,000 in the Lucky Lotteries draw, after purchasing tickets in a pool on a weekly basis for five years.
