Canberra Liberals: Get Molonglo Moving

Liberal MLA for Murrumbidgee Ed Cocks has launched a community campaign to ‘Get Molonglo Moving’ aimed at addressing traffic congestion in the Molonglo Valley.

The campaign comes on the back of extensive community consultation by Mr Cocks with the people of Molonglo, who overwhelmingly raised traffic congestion as one of the main issues they are facing.

“Molonglo Valley has some of the worst traffic problems in the ACT, and the Labor-Greens government has been unable or unwilling to address the problem,” Mr Cocks said.

“With our limited road connections, and rapidly growing population, it was a predictable problem. Traffic congestion did not need to get this bad, but the government hasn’t listened.

“No-one likes being stuck in traffic all the time, and it shouldn’t be a barrier to spending time with family, going shopping, or going out with friends.

“This campaign will show the Government how congestion is impacting our community, and push for real solutions.”

Mr Cocks also pointed to the impact of Molonglo Valley’s traffic problems on other areas, stating: “The traffic problems in Molonglo have become so bad they now impact surrounding areas including Weston Creek, Belconnen, Woden and Weston Creek.

“As more people move into the Molonglo Valley, the problem is only going to get worse. I am launching this campaign and pushing for real solutions to Molonglo’s congestion problems.”
