A fire at the Canberra Services Club in Barton has now been extinguished, with significant smoke reported at the time of the incident.
At around 11:30am, emergency services responded to a blaze that forced the evacuation of the club and nearby buildings.
In a statement on Facebook, the club confirmed the fire started in the kitchen and reassured the public that everyone is safe.
“We want to let our members and community know that there was a fire in the kitchen at the Servo earlier today,” the post said.
“Thanks to the swift response of the ACT Emergency Services Agency team, the situation was quickly brought under control.”
“Most importantly, everyone was safely evacuated and no injuries have been reported.”
“The Club will be closed until further notice while we assess the damage and ensure everything is safe before reopening.”
As of a 2:30pm update from the ESA, crews will remain on scene and road closures remain in place for the next few hours.
