Canberran drowns on South Coast

A man believed to be from Canberra has drowned at a beach on the South Coast on Wednesday.

A statement by New South Wales Police Force said a man had died on the South Coast after being pulled unresponsive from the surf.

“Emergency services were called to Gannet Beach at Bawley Point, shortly before 4pm yesterday, Wednesday 16 April 2025, after a man was found unresponsive in the water by two surfers,” the police statement said.

“They brought the man to shore and commenced CPR until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived; however, the 54-year-old man was unable to be revived.

“Officers attached to the South Coast Police District will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.

“Itโ€™s believed the man is from the ACT.”
