Canberra’s most popular baby names for 2025

Evelyn (girl) and Oliver were the most popular ACT baby names in 2025, according to birth registration data from Access Canberra.

Top 10 girl names:
1    Evelyn
2    Hazel
3    Grace
=4    Charlotte
=4    Lily
=6    Isla
=6    Matila    
=6    Olivia
9    Amelia
10    Eleanor

Evelyn topped the list for the first time after appearing in the top 10 six times before. Hazel and Grace rounded out the top three, and Charlotte and Lily tied for fourth place. Lily returned to the top 10 after last appearing in 2012.

Olivia, which tied for sixth place with Isla and Matilda, has appeared in every top 10 list since 1998, except 2016. Last year’s number one, Amelia, slipped to ninth, but remained in the top 10.

Top 10 boy names:

1    Oliver
2    Henry
3    Noah
4    Levi
=5    Elijah
=5   Oscar
=7    Liam
=7    Muhammad
=7    Theodore
10    Charlie

Oliver reclaimed number one for boys, having consistently featured in the top 10 since 2008 and topped the list in 2010, 2019, and 2022.

Henry followed in second place; it has been a regular top 10 entrant since 2014, and topped the list in 2021 and 2023. Last year’s favourite boy name, Noah, placed third this year. Levi, Elijah and Oscar rounded out the top five. Levi and Elijah both appeared in the top 10 just once before, tying for 10th place in 2022.

As of 15 December, 6,039 births had been registered in the ACT for 2025, comparable with 6,085 registrations in 2024.

Birth registrations are compulsory, and must be completed within six months of a child’s birth.

Data is accurate as of 15 December 2025, but may change as babies are registered in the last weeks of 2025.
