Community invited to have a say on ACT public school resourcing

Canberrans are being asked to share their views on how ACT public schools should be funded, as an independent expert panel begins a major review of the system.

The ACT Public School System Resourcing Review Expert Panel has released a consultation paper and opened submissions, seeking feedback on how the ACT can better and more sustainably support its schools.

The review will examine how public education funding is allocated; what central support services schools need; and where responsibilities should sit between schools and the Education Directorate.

Education minister Yvette Berry MLA said ACT schools support “increasingly diverse cohorts of students with complex needs”, and that a well-resourced system was essential for students, families, and staff.

Submissions can be made by 17 December via an online form, writing, audio, video, or through advisory group organisations.

The advisory group includes representatives from unions, ACT Parents, the ACT Principals Association, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body, the Association of School Business Managers ACT, and ACT Government directorates.

Panel chair Ken Smith AO said:“We encourage Canberrans to provide us with their thoughts and ideas about public school resourcing. There are many ways people can contribute: by answering specific questions, recording a message for us, or sending in a detailed submission.”

The panel’s final report and the government’s response will be tabled in the Legislative Assembly by May 2026.
