Constructors wanted to enhance Scrivener Dam

The National Capital Authority (NCA) is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for construction work to enhance the structural integrity of Scrivener Dam.

The project will strengthen the dissipator, which absorbs the energy of water flowing over the dam’s flood gates, through the installation of 700 new anchors into the foundation rock beneath the dam, the construction of a 500mm topping slab, erection of new dissipator blocks on the slab, and the construction of all associated temporary access works.

“The Scrivener Dam Dissipator Strengthening Project marks an important milestone in safeguarding Canberra’s water infrastructure,” Sally Barnes, chief executive of the National Capital Authority, said.

Scrivener Dam, an essential component of Canberra’s water management infrastructure, regulates the Molonglo River to form Lake Burley Griffin, a defining feature of the National Capital. The dam plays a pivotal role in controlling water flow in the Molonglo River, safeguarding residents of Canberra from flooding and downstream areas from sudden fluctuations in water levels.

“The National Capital Authority is seeking qualified and experienced contractors to form a pool of candidates leading to the appointment of a Head Contractor for the works,” Ms Barnes said. “Engaging in this EOI process presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of a nationally significant and iconic landmark.”

Qualified and experienced contractors are invited to submit an expression of interest by 15 December. Shortlisted respondents will be invited to participate in a Request for Tender process to select a Preferred Tenderer as Head Contractor for the work.
