Cop who tasered grandma fights dismissal from police force

An ex-officer found guilty of the manslaughter of a 95-year-old nursing home resident has launched court action against NSW Police to have his removal from the force reviewed.

Kristian White tasered Clare Nowland at Yallambe Lodge aged care facility in Cooma on May 17, 2023.

The great-grandmother was on a walker and holding a knife when hit by the stun gun.

She fell to the ground and fractured her skull, dying in hospital a week later.

White was found guilty of manslaughter by a 12-person jury in the NSW Supreme Court on November 27.

The former senior constable had been sidelined from his job with pay for 18 months after charges were laid, but was suspended without pay following his conviction.

White was then removed from the police force on December 3.

He has launched legal action against police, filing for a review of his dismissal in the Industrial Relations Commission of NSW.

NSW Police confirmed the legal filing in a statement on Monday, saying it has been advised of the action but “given the matter is before the IRC no further comment can be made.”

White is awaiting sentencing.
