Family violence incident leads to police discovering cannabis plants

A 51-year-old man will face court today following a family violence incident where police later located 10 cannabis plants being grown hydroponically.

At about 2:40pm yesterday, Tuesday 19 March, a woman contacted police to report an alleged family violence incident that had just occurred.

Police located the woman at nearby shops and, soon after, lawfully entered the womanโ€™s home to try and locate the alleged offender โ€“ a 51-year-old man. While at the property, 10 mature cannabis plants, including lighting, ventilation, watering and computer control equipment were discovered in the rear garage.

A 51-year-old man later surrendered himself to Woden Police Station where he was charged with chokes/suffocates/strangles another person, aggravated reckless threats to kill and trespass. Charges relating to the cannabis grow house are pending.

The man is scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today, Wednesday 19 March, in relation to the family violence charges.
