Federal disaster resilience grants open for ACT organisations

ACT organisations can now apply for the latest round of the federal Disaster Ready Fund, which supports projects that help communities prepare for climate change and natural hazards.

Round 4 (2026–27) closes on 1 July. The ACT can submit up to 15 applications to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), with a baseline funding allocation of $5.34 million and the opportunity to seek further funding from the national pool.

The ACT Government has opened an Expression of Interest (EOI) process to coordinate submissions. Organisations should submit a short proposal summary by 16 June. Projects must be delivered within three years.

Dr Marisa Paterson MLA, Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services, encouraged ACT organisations to come forward with proposals.

“The Disaster Ready Fund is a vital tool to help protect lives, property and community wellbeing, and to ensure the ACT is ready to face future disasters,” Dr Paterson said. “[It] has already delivered real benefits for the ACT.”

Projects funded in previous rounds include a flash flood warning system; disaster preparedness training for ACT pharmacists; and flood studies across the Ginninderra, Jerrabomberra and Woolshed Creek catchments.

“As climate change drives more frequent and severe natural hazards, investing in preparedness and mitigation is essential,” Dr Paterson said.

More information about the ACT application process is available online or by emailing [email protected].
