Giants look to unify Canberra and Sydney with new 2021 jersey design

The GWS Giants are celebrating their 10th season in the AFL with a bold new jersey design that is aiming to represent their entire fan base.

Having previously worn a specific Canberra designed jersey for their games in the nation’s capital, 2021 will be the first time the Giants play in the same jumper for all home games across Canberra and Sydney.

The Giants decided to forge ahead with one jersey design as part of their evolution as a relatively new side in the competition, saying they are one club across two important markets and felt the time was right to unify all fans.

The club said the designer of their original Canberra jersey, member John Gerrard, was fully supportive of the move.

Despite the capital no longer having its own strip, ‘Canberra’ will still feature on the back of Giants jerseys for all games.

The 2021 jerseys have been developed in conjunction with new apparel partner PUMA, with the club’s traditional orange and charcoal home kit to feature a large Giants ‘G’ more prominently in the middle of the jersey rather than to the side as in previous seasons.

The clash jumper is aiming to celebrate the orange that has become synonymous with the club, moving away from the white which has been used previously. The orange strip also features a large charcoal ‘G’ in the middle of the jersey.

The Giants will also wear the jumper designed by forward Bobby Hill for the 2020 Sir Doug Nicholls Round on occasions in the coming years when a white kit is required. It will also be worn for the 2021 Sir Doug Nicholls round.

Giants Chief Executive David Matthews was happy with the new-look jerseys and was confident they will be a hit with the fans.

“We are delighted with the new designs that our AFL team will wear this year as we celebrate our 10th season in the competition,” said Matthews.

“Over the past 10 years, the Giants have developed a reputation for being innovative in everything we do and these bold designs fit with this ethos.

“I have no doubt that our members will love these new designs and they’ll prove very popular as we mark this significant milestone across the 2021 season.”
