Gordon man charged with manslaughter after neglect of mother

A 54-year-old Gordon man will face court today charged with manslaughter following the death of his elderly mother in July last year.

On 1 July 2025, emergency services attended a home in Gordon and located a 74-year-old woman, who was in extremely poor health and living in extremely poor conditions.

ACT Ambulance Service paramedics transported her to hospital, but she sadly passed away the next day, Wednesday 2 July.

Following investigations, police allege the 54-year-old man, who was the woman’s full-time carer, failed to provide adequate care over an extended period and failed to seek medical assistance for the woman despite her significant and worsening health conditions.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, Tuesday 10 March, charged with manslaughter.
