National Mexican restaurant group Hecho en Mexico (HEM) has arrived in Canberra, opening its first ACT location in Kingston’s harbourside precinct on Wednesday 20 August.
The Kingston venue is the 26th in the country for the Victorian-born franchise, which has built a reputation for authentic street-style dishes and lively dining experiences since first opening in Fitzroy in 2013.
To celebrate the Canberra launch, locals can enjoy two weeks of opening specials, including $5 tacos, $15 margaritas and $5 mango shots.
On the menu are favourites like birria quesa-tacos with slow-cooked meat and consommé, al pastor pork marinated with Mexican spices, and a wide range of tacos, fajitas and salsas. Drinks span eight margarita varieties — including the popular guava margarita, once voted among Melbourne’s best — alongside mezcalitas, sangria and HEM’s popular Bottomless Brunch offer.
The Kingston restaurant has created 17 local jobs and sources fresh produce from ACT suppliers while importing key spices and chillies from Mexico.
Co-founder Parveen Bajar said the team was excited to bring the brand to Canberra: We’re excited to share our love of authentic Mexican food with Canberra locals and create 17 new jobs for the community.
