Kangaroos have helped stop a male driver in his track who was being pursued by police along Canberra Avenue.

A 29-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today after allegedly driving dangerously through Narrabundah, Fyshwick and Queanbeyan this morning.

“About 12:40am this morning (Thursday, 4 September 2025), police observed a Silver Ford Focus compact car driving above the speed limit on Canberra Avenue in Symonston,” a statement by ACT Policing said.

“Police followed the vehicle and directed the driver to pull over on Hindmarsh Drive.

“The driver took off at speed and was seen driving dangerously, including through red lights and on the wrong side of the road into Narrabundah.

“Police continued to observe the driver from a distance as he proceeded into Queanbeyan, NSW.”

ACT Policing said a short time later, the vehicle re-entered the ACT and police initiated a pursuit.

“The driver continued along Canberra Avenue at about 130km/h in an 80km/h zone where the vehicle allegedly proceeded through a red light, resulting in a minor collision with a Toyota Corolla,” the statement said.

“The driver continued driving until he hit several kangaroos crossing the road, causing the man to come to a stop, when police subsequently arrested the man.

“The man told police that his licence was suspended and that he had methylamphetamine in his pocket, which was later found by police.

“The man has been charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving while suspended and drug possession.”
