Lanyon Drive will be closed later this month

Lanyon Drive between the northbound and southbound carriageways of Monaro Highway will be closed from 7pm, Friday 17 October to 5am, Monday 20 October for roadworks.

A new flyover and interchange at the Monaro Highway and Lanyon Drive intersection is being built. 40 bridge girders need to be lifted onto the piers to form the bridge structure.

Over the weekend, concrete girders will be safely lifted onto the bridge piers over Lanyon Drive. 20 bridge girders are already in place.

During the closure, traffic can detour through the Hume industrial area along Sheppard Street to access Monaro Highway. This adds approximately five minutes to travel time.

Road users travelling from Jerrabomberra to north Canberra can also turn right onto Lanyon Drive at Tompsitt Drive, and then use Canberra Avenue.

In coming months, the road will be closed over weekends for bridge construction and works including a new stormwater line and pavements near the northbound carriageway intersection.

Construction of the flyover and interchange is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

The Monaro Highway upgrade is jointly funded by the Australian and ACT Governments.
