Latham man charged after attempted knifepoint carjacking

After an alleged attempted carjacking in Melba yesterday, police have charged 24-year-old Latham man Nathaniel Coulter, who was subject to bail and good behaviour orders, with multiple offences.

On Monday 26 January, about 2.15pm, a man brandishing a large knife was reported on Kingsford Smith Drive in Melba. Police chased Coulter on foot; he dropped the knife he was carrying, and the police arrested him.

Witnesses told police the man had attempted to steal a vehicle by threatening a driver at knifepoint, but could not start the vehicle.

Police charged Coulter with breach of bail; breach of a good behaviour order; possession of stolen property; possessing an  offensive weapon with intent; attempted aggravated robbery; property damage; and intentional threat to inflict grievous bodily harm.

Facing the ACT Magistrates Court today, Coulter did not apply for bail or enter pleas to charges. He returns to court in February.

Anyone who witnessed yesterday’s incident and has not already spoken to police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.  Please quote 8285807. Information can be provided anonymously.
