The immersive exhibition Leonardo da Vinci – 500 Years of Genius in Canberra has been extended until 12 April, following strong public demand, giving visitors extra time to experience the life and work of one of history’s most influential figures.
Originally scheduled to close earlier, the popular showcase will now run for an additional two weeks, coinciding with the Easter period and the start of school holidays. Organisers have also announced special family-friendly activities, including daily Easter egg hunts over the long weekend. In a further boost for families, children will be admitted free of charge from Monday to Thursday during the first week of school holidays.
Presented by Happen Group, Alter Place, Destroy All Lines and the National Capital Authority, the exhibition has drawn significant attention for its innovative approach to storytelling. Created by Grande Experiences in collaboration with the Museo Leonardo da Vinci in Rome, the exhibition combines art, science and technology to create a fully immersive environment.
Rather than a traditional gallery display, 500 Years of Genius invites visitors into a multi-sensory journey through Leonardo’s life. Large-scale projections, interactive installations and detailed replicas of his inventions allow audiences to explore the breadth of his work—from iconic artworks like the Mona Lisa to his groundbreaking designs in engineering and anatomy.
Organisers say the extension reflects the exhibition’s broad appeal across all age groups. “This is an immersive journey of discovery and wonder,” a spokesperson said, noting that the experience is designed to inspire curiosity and creativity.
Leonardo da Vinci, widely regarded as one of the greatest minds in history, continues to fascinate audiences more than 500 years after his death. By blending historical insight with modern technology, the exhibition aims to bring his legacy to life in a way that is both educational and engaging.
With the added holiday programming and extended dates, organisers are encouraging locals and visitors alike to take advantage of the opportunity before the exhibition closes.
