Lifeline Canberra Bookfair returns to the city

The Lifeline Canberra Bookfair will return to the National Convention Centre next weekend, Friday 5 to Sunday 7 June — “the perfect way to kick off the Canberra winter by stocking up on cozy indoor activities and entertainment,” the organisation says.

Thousands of pre-loved books, puzzles, games, DVDs, CDs and collectibles will be sold to raise funds for Lifeline Canberra’s 13 11 14 crisis support service, ensuring no-one has to face their darkest moments alone.

“The Lifeline Canberra Bookfairs are a cornerstone of the organisation’s community fundraising efforts,” CEO Carrie Leeson said.

“Each bookfair generates essential funds to support the training of crisis support volunteers, while giving the community a fun, meaningful way to engage — whether through donating books, volunteering time, or finding their next great read.”

Special finds include a collection of historical Meanjin journals; a dedicated section on Musical Theatre including sheet music from musicals, books, programs and CDs; books in French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Spanish and other languages; and vintage children’s books.

Ms Leeson said the event would not be possible without the community’s support.

“Our volunteers, team and stakeholders are the heart of Lifeline Canberra. Their commitment ensures we can continue to raise life-saving funds for our crisis support service. We’re so grateful to everyone who makes this event happen — it’s a true testament to the power of community.”
