Little Sutton Bakehouse expanding to Deakin

Little Sutton Bakehouse is bringing its popular sourdough, pastries and pies closer to Canberra, with a second location set to open in Deakin next month.

The new bakery will take over the former Locale Pizzeria site and is expected to open in early September, offering the Sutton bakery’s signature sourdough, gourmet pies, buttery croissants and country-style cakes.

While customers will have a new location to visit, the baking will remain centred in Sutton, with fresh bread and baked goods delivered to Deakin each day under the bakery’s “Dough on the Daily” model. The Deakin store will also prepare gourmet sandwiches using its house-made olive oil focaccia and seasonal ingredients.

Owners Omar Muscat and Daniel Sparrow said the expansion was driven by demand from customers who had embraced the bakery since it opened.

Little Sutton Bakehouse has become a popular destination for Canberrans, drawing visitors to Sutton for its artisan baking and country atmosphere.

Omar said that while the products would be familiar, the ambition for Deakin extended well beyond opening another bakery.

“We’ve always believed hospitality is about bringing people together,” Omar said.

“Little Sutton Deakin will complement what Doubleshot Deakin already does so well, adding artisan baking, fresh sourdough, handcrafted focaccias and pastries to the precinct.”

“Together, we want to create a place where people can grab their morning coffee, meet friends for lunch, pick up fresh bread on the way home, or simply spend time together.”

“The Deakin Shops have always been a place for the community to connect. We see Little Sutton Deakin as building on that, creating a hospitality hub where great food, great coffee and genuine connection come together.”

“It’s about giving people more reasons to stay a little longer and making the precinct an even more vibrant destination,” he said.

The Deakin store will continue Little Sutton Bakehouse’s partnership with Pepe Saya, whose cultured butter is used throughout the bakery’s pastries and baked goods. Customers will also be able to buy a selection of Pepe Saya products, including cultured butter, milk and lemon curd.

The experience won’t stop at artisan bread and pastries. As the weather warms, Little Sutton Deakin will also become home to the bakery’s much-loved sourdough pizza nights.

Little Sutton Deakin is expected to open in early September. Updates on the opening will be shared via Little Sutton Bakehouse’s Instagram page.
