Kylie launched Nurse Next Door Home Care Services in Canberra in 2021 with a clear purpose: Making Lives Better through genuine, compassionate home care. Inspired by her love for her community and a deep belief in the importance of staying at home as we age or live with disability, she built a service grounded in trust, kindness, and meaningful connection.
She knew that people thrive when they remain in the spaces that hold their memories. Home is where families gather, where gardens are tended, where routines are familiar. It’s where life feels most like itself. Kylie set out to offer care that supported this way of living, care that made it possible for people to stay where they belonged.
Her daughter Jacinta joined the business soon after. With a background in health and a strong sense of community, Jacinta brought new energy and insight into the growing team. Working together felt natural. They shared the same values, the same goals, and the same commitment to Making Lives Better by helping people live with dignity and purpose. Today, their team includes more than 80 caregivers and nurses caring for over 100 clients across Canberra and now Batemans Bay, all dedicated to the same vision.
Every care journey begins with a conversation. The team listens closely to understand what matters most — not just what support is needed, but how someone wants to live. Some people need help getting ready for the day, preparing meals, or managing medication. Others are looking for companionship, transport, or 24/7 nursing care. Every plan is tailored, and every detail is considered. With oversight from experienced Registered Nurses, families can feel confident that their loved ones are in capable, caring hands.

One of the first people to receive care through Nurse Next Door Canberra was Rick. He started with a single visit each day and gradually received more support as his needs changed. Over time, his wife Vicki also became a client, receiving weekly companionship that helped her stay active and connected. Their story reflects the power of consistent, personalised care. It also speaks to the meaningful relationships that grow between clients and caregivers.
Chelsea and Rakshya, two of the nurses who have supported Rick and Vicki from the beginning, both began their professional journeys with Nurse Next Door. They were drawn to community care because it allowed them to build long-term connections and witness the small wins that happen over time. They’ve shared celebrations, laughter, and quiet, heartfelt moments. On one occasion, Chelsea dressed up as the Easter Bunny to bring joy to Rick when he was missing his grandchildren. These small gestures are woven into everyday care and often become the memories that matter most.
At the centre of the Nurse Next Door experience is a unique philosophy of care known as Happier Ageing. Clients are asked a simple question: “What did you used to love doing that you no longer do?” This opens the door to rediscovering hobbies, interests, and passions that bring joy and purpose. Whether it’s a return to painting, a walk by the lake, or a shared recipe in the kitchen, the goal is always to help people reconnect with the things that make life feel full.
As the service grows into new regions, including the recent expansion into Batemans Bay, the commitment remains unchanged. Every visit is a chance to support someone in a meaningful way. Every smile is a reminder of the impact of thoughtful, respectful care.
Kylie and Jacinta continue to lead with heart. Their connection to the Canberra region runs deep, and their pride in their team is clear. From the very beginning, they set out to build something lasting. Today, that vision lives on in every client they support and every story they help shape — all through the power of Making Lives Better.
