A man has been arrested following a pursuit from Sydney to Canberra overnight with motorist also crashing into a marked police vehicle.
NSW Police Force said about 10pm on Tuesday 29 July, officers were patrolling a street in Sydney when they attempted to stop a white hatchback, believed to be a stolen vehicle.
“Checks revealed the vehicle was allegedly stolen from Melbourne on Saturday 26 July 2025,” a NSW Police Force statement said.
“When it allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated after it crashed into a marked police vehicle and attempted to leave the scene.
“The driver of the police vehicle – a male constable – was not injured.
“A short time later, the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.”
About 11pm on the same day, officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command located the vehicle on the M7 motorway and commenced a pursuit, the police statement said.
Officers from multiple commands assisted including on the ground, and in the air via PolAir, before the vehicle travelled across the border and into the ACT.
“ACT Policing arrested the man about 1am today (Wednesday 30 July 2025) in Downer, ACT,” the statement said.
“The 43-year-old remains in the custody of ACT Policing at this time and is to be extradited to NSW. Inquiries continue.”
