Man arrested for impersonating police in attempt to access home

ACT Policing has charged a 29 year-old man from Rivett with 11 offences after an attempted burglary and impersonating police.

“At about 8:20am on Saturday 26 July police received a report of a man attempting to gain access to a residence in Rivett,” a statement by ACT Policing said.

“Police allege the man told the occupier of the residence he was a detective and when the resident asked the man to produce identification he failed to do so.

“It is then alleged the man removed a metal hatchet from his pocket and tried to open the front door.”

ACT Policing said at about 8:40am police members from Woden Police Station located the man walking away from the incident.

“The man resisted police and after a short foot pursuit was arrested,” the statement said.

“Police searched the man and located a number of bladed weapons, items that police suspect were associated with committing burglaries and suspected stolen property.

“He was arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House.

“The man, who was on bail at the time of the offence, was charged with 11 offences including obstruct/resist territory public official, possess/use a prohibited weapon, going equipped for theft, attempted aggravated burglary and falsely represent self as a territory public official.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, Monday 28 July.
