Market supporting more than farmers at upcoming Away Game

As the Capital Region Farmers Market heads out to GIO Stadium in Bruce for their ‘Away Game’ next Saturday 25 November, they’ll be supporting more than the many farmers, producers and makers joining them.

Fitting for a Market being held at Canberra’s biggest sporting arena, GIO Stadium which is home of the Canberra Raiders Rugby League team, the Market will be supporting grassroots Rugby League at their Away Game.

“The Market is very engrained with local food suppliers, supporting the families of so many local and regional farmers and, of course, getting high quality produce to Canberrans with super low food miles,” says Capital Region Farmers Market manager, Sarah Power.

“Sport is something we’re not as closely involved with, so for our special Away Game Market at the Stadium, we thought why not support a local sporting team, the Belconnen United Sharks Under 14s Rugby League team in their endeavours to really kick some goals,” Sarah smiles.

The Market will sponsor the Belconnen United Sharks for their tour of the NSW South Coast in 2024.

“Our support is not one-sided; the team is definitely supporting the Market too! The team’s players will be on hand to assist Market shoppers by helping with bags of groceries on the day. And we hope many Belconnen families will join us.

“It’s another way that the Market supports local community projects via its founder, the Rotary Club of Hall, and we hope this can be the first of many sporting partnerships with local clubs,” Sarah says.

The Belconnen United Sharks Under 14s will also take part in the entertainment of the Market’s Away Game by running a ball passing workshop so that kids and families can join in. Away Game will also feature live musicians and entertainment, as well as face painting and badge making for the kids, making it an enjoyable Saturday morning outing for families.

This year’s Away Game will offer a great range of Christmas produce such as hams, fruit mince tarts and puddings, summer fruits such as cherries and stone fruits, and plenty of vegetables including many organic varieties. Plus, there will be plenty of meat, poultry, seafood, smallgoods, dairy and bakery treats, and lots of colour for the garden.

Capital Region Farmers Market Away Game will be held on Saturday 25 November 7-11.30am at GIO Stadium in Bruce. For more information, visit www.capitalregionfarmersmarket.com.au
