A 34-year-old Queanbeyan man has been charged with drink driving after hitting traffic lights on Canberra Avenue in Fyshwick last night.
“About 11:30pm (Monday 28 July 2025), ACT Policing received reports of a single vehicle collision at the intersection of Newcastle Street and Canberra Avenue, Fyshwick,” an ACT Policing statement said.
“Police attended and witnesses reported that the driver had fled the scene on foot.
“Officers located the man on Geraldton Crescent a short time later where he failed to provide a roadside breath test.”
The man was arrested and taken to City Police Station where he provided a breath analysis of 0.137, police said.
“The man – who was the holder of an international driver’s licence – was subject to a breath alcohol limit of 0.000,” ACT Policing said.
“The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court in September, charged with drink driving, fail roadside screening test, and using a vehicle with suspended registration.
Detective acting Inspector Sean Evans said it was extremely disappointing to see people thinking it was still okay to drink and drive.
“As we come into August, ACT Policing will be targeting impaired driving – and I’m asking the community to help us by calling out those dangerous behaviours,” he said.
