New recruits join ACT Policing

29 new police officers have joined ACT Policing.

The recruit class of 24 men and five women, aged 20 to 45, trained at the AFP College in Barton. They earlier worked in real estate, security, defence, teaching, childcare, the NDIS, and the AFP.

A graduation ceremony was held at the National Gallery of Australia this week.

The new recruits form part of the Government’s recruitment of 126 additional police officers — the 2023-24 Budget invested $107 million over five years provided — to ensure ACT Policing can keep pace with Canberra’s growing population. 52 graduate recruits joined ACT Policing earlier this year.

“Policing is a challenging yet rewarding profession, and I commend our new officers for their desire to make a meaningful impact,” police minister Dr Marisa Paterson MLA said.

“The new recruits will become an integral part of the ACT community and help keep Canberrans safe.”

Chief Police Officer Deputy Commissioner Scott Lee looked forward to seeing the new recruits start work.

“I want to congratulate these 29 women and men on reaching this special milestone and for their commitment and dedication in choosing a career with ACT Policing. They will soon be out on the road, and I wish them all the best in serving our wonderful community.”
