ACT families can now apply for one-off payments to help cover school costs in 2026.
The ACT Government has opened applications for its Future of Education Equity Fund, which financially supports low-income families with children in preschool to year 12 cover expenses such as book packs, uniforms, excursions, sports equipment and activities, tuition and music lessons.
Payments available for 2026:
- $400 for preschool students
- $500 for primary school students
- $750 for high school and college students.
Families can submit a single application covering all eligible students, even if they attend different schools. Payments will be made from this month for completed applications. The program will remain open until the end of November 2026.
“The Future of Education Equity Fund helps families to manage back-to-school costs so that their children can start the year with the items they need,” education minister Yvette Berry MLA said.
“Opening applications from 1 December 2025 supports families to address cost-of-living pressures before the 2026 school year begins. “We are committed to supporting every child in Canberra to fully engage with their education, no matter their background.”
This year, the fund provided $3.7 million to 6,200 students, up from $3.4 million for 5,800 students last year.
