Canberrans can meet the remarkable dogs that help transform lives when Guide Dogs NSW/ACT brings its Pat and Chat experience to The Jetty, Queen Elizabeth Terrace, on Saturday 8 November.
From 9am to 12pm, visitors can meet, hug, pat, and play with several trainee guide dogs, and learn about how training turns these playful puppies into guide dogs.
The event offers a behind-the-scenes look at the world of guide dogs: trainers and staff will share tips and insights into their work.
Merchandise sales will support Guide Dogs’ ongoing programs in accessibility and inclusion.
Community MobiliserDaniel Searlesaid: “This event is a wonderful chance for people to get up close with our dogs, see the incredible work that goes into their training, and understand the vital impact they have on the lives of those living with low vision and blindness.”
As part of a broader effort to remove barriers for people who are blind or have low vision, the event will be attended by MPs and advocates for change.
“Hosting this experience in Canberra, with MPs and community leaders involved, puts inclusion right where it belongs: on the national agenda,” Mr Searle said. “Addressing access and inclusion barriers starts with understanding, and events like this open the door to real change.”
