Four people, including three motorcyclists, have been issued traffic infringement notices (TINs) and large fines after police detected them speeding by 30km/h or more on Saturday 19 November.

The first was a motorcyclist observed speeding by ACT Road Policing officers on the Monaro Highway, Fyshwick about 7.50am.

Police located the Yamaha motorcycle in Newcastle Street, Fyshwick, and while they were following it, recorded its speed at 108km/h in a 60km/h area.

When stopped, the rider, a 22-year-old Kaleen man, said he was running late for work. He will be fined $1841 infringement for exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 45km/h and accrue 6 demerit points on his licence.

About 10.45am, ACT Road Policing members conducting mobile patrols on Paddys River Road detected a Ducati motorcycle on radar at 142km/h in a 100km/h speed zone. The rider, a 32-year-old Gilmore man, will be issued with a TIN for $700 and 4 demerit points.

Approximately half an hour later, another motorcyclist was detected on Brindabella Road near Uriarra Village at travelling 111km/h in an 80km/h zone. A 66-year-old Queanbeyan man will be issued with a TIN for $700 and 4 demerit points.

About 4.10pm a 43-year-old Bonner woman was detected driving at 74km/h in a road works 40km/h zone. She will be issued with a TIN for $700 and 4 demerit points.

Police remind the community there is no such thing as safe speeding, and to observe all speed limits, including reduced speed zones for road works.
