Thereโs still one day to go until the Federal Election and polls are close but a prophetic peacock in Narrabundah has already called the election outcome, adding yet another bold political prediction feather to his hat.
Percy is known locally as a โNarrabundah chickenโ, one of many peacocks roaming the residential streets and heโs built a fine reputation as a political analyst โ even rivalling ABC election analyst Antony Green.
Under strict scrutiny from unbiased observers, Percy was today given two selections of birdseed to choose from โ Labor or Liberal.
Full disclosure: a few corn kernels were accidentally spilt close to the Liberal sign. However, while Percy and girlfriend Prudence (peafowl psephologist) nibbled on these as they approached the Liberal sign โ Percy promptly made a sharp left hand turn to eat from the Labor sign.
Itโs official folks, Percy has called it, and his past two predictions have proven correct (he predicted US President Trumpโs win in the recent US election and also Chief Minister Andrew Barrโs win in the last ACT election).
Narrabundah resident Timothy DeWan, whoโs convenor of Save The Narrabundah Peafowl, said he was surprised by Percyโs perceptive abilities.
โHe chose Trump, it was really extraordinary as it wasnโt expected and I never would have thought it,โ Tim said. โItโs his ability to choose things, or he just liked the seed selection, who knows.โ
Tim assured us that each political prediction was carried out under strict protocols that the Australian Electoral Commission would surely approve of. The birdseed for both parties was identical in both quantity and content (black sunflower seeds and corn kernels).
โI donโt do favouritism, itโs all above board,โ Tim said. โPercy seems to be mostly only interested in politics, being a Canberra peafowl, so we havenโt tried to predict sporting events. Whether his politics is more to the left or the right, or he just knows which way the wind is blowing โ which is a very important thing because they donโt like the wind. He may be correct this time, who knows.
โHe hasnโt been watching any of the campaign election coverage on TV, he doesnโt want to be swayed by any potential bias. He waits until the opportunity arises and he and Antony Green make a decision. Every time heโs called it, heโs done it before Antony Green.โ
According to election analyst Antony Green, as of Tuesday 29 April, 4,036,060 pre-poll votes had been taken, representing 22.3% of enrolment. A total of 2,470,757 postal vote packages have been dispatched representing 13.7% of enrolment.
Final polls from various firms have Labor as likely to form government.
