Queanbeyan council’s Reconciliation Action Plan endorsed

Reconciliation Australia has formally endorsed Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) for 2026-2027.

The Plan represents Council’s commitment to respectful and strong relationships, opportunities and good governance with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and works to promote reconciliation in the broader community.

“This endorsement marks a significant milestone in Council’s ongoing commitment to fostering reconciliation with First Nations Peoples,” a spokesperson said.

Mayor Kenrick Winchester said that Council was committed to reconciliation.

“The endorsement of our Innovate RAP by Reconciliation Australia is a step in our ongoing reconciliation journey,” Mayor Winchester said.

“This RAP focuses on developing and strengthening relationships with First Nations Peoples, engaging staff and stakeholders in reconciliation, and developing and piloting innovative strategies to empower First Nations Peoples.

“Reconciliation is important for our community and for us as a Council. As we continue our path towards reconciliation, we hope that this RAP will be an ambitious but achievable guide for us over the next couple of years.’

“Council celebrates the diversity and cultures of First Nations Peoples in Queanbeyan-Palerang and we value the significant contributions of First Nations Peoples to our community.”

The RAP is available on both the Reconciliation Australia and QPRC websites.
