Recidivist offender arrested following Moncrieff warrant

A 40-year-old man on parole for previous offences will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, 31 July, following his arrest in Moncrieff over the weekend.

Police allege the man failed to return a white Kia Sorrento to a Mitchell car hire business in late June, with the business subsequently reporting the vehicle stolen.

Police further allege the vehicle was used to commit two burglaries – one at a Ngunnawal residence about 6am on Thursday 13 July, and another at a Casey residence between 6.30am and 8.30am on Friday 14 July.

The total value of items allegedly stolen during the Ngunnawal burglary was approximately $20,000.

Investigations into the burglaries allowed police to identify the man via CCTV captured from neighbouring residences.

About 9.25am on Saturday 29 July, police executed a search warrant at a Moncrieff residence where the man was located. During a search of the residence, police allegedly found property reported stolen during the Ngunnawal and Casey burglaries, as well as the stolen Kia Sorrento, and other items suspected of being stolen during further offending.

He was arrested, and has been charged with aggravated burglary, drive stolen motor vehicle, and three counts of unlawful possession of stolen property. Police will oppose bail.
