The Royal Australian Mint has been awarded ACT’s Best Cultural Tourism Destination at the 2025 Canberra Region Tourism Awards, recognising its outstanding contribution to showcasing Australia’s culture and heritage through the art of coin-making.
CEO Emily Martin said the award celebrated the passion and dedication of the Mint’s staff.
“This award honours the commitment of our team, who bring Australia’s story to life through coins,” Ms Martin said. “It’s a testament to their professionalism and creativity in delivering experiences that inspire visitors of all ages.”
The award highlights the Mint’s role as a thriving cultural and tourism destination, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Australia’s history, innovation and identity.
Following the reopening of its new museum space, 2025 has been a landmark year for the Mint, Ms Martin said. The number of Easter visitors broke records and its Family Fun Day is set to become an annual tradition.
“Visitation to the Mint is now well above pre-COVID levels,” Ms Martin said. “It’s been incredible to see families, students and tourists reconnect with our stories and explore how money is made, designed and used in society.”
As the ACT’s regional winner, the Mint will now represent the Territory at the Australian Tourism Awards in March 2026.
Visitors to the Royal Australian Mint can explore Australia’s coin history and production, view free exhibitions and guided tours daily, and even walk above the factory floor to watch coins being made.
