A second man has been charged following an ACT Policing investigation into an alleged blackmail, assault and aggravated robbery in Belconnen last month.
ACT Policing confirmed on Wednesday that a 45-year-old Calwell man had been arrested after officers executed a search warrant at his home on Tuesday.
During the search, police allegedly seized a number of items including an imitation handgun, gel blaster, ammunition, body armour and substances believed to be anabolic steroids.
The man has been charged with multiple offences including joint commission blackmail, joint commission aggravated robbery and firearms and prohibited weapon offences.
He was scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The charges follow the earlier arrest of a 30-year-old Hughes man as part of the same investigation.
Police allege the Hughes man made threats to another man in late April, demanding money and attempting to coerce him into making payments by threatening to make false reports to police.
It is alleged the victim transferred money in an attempt to stop the harassment.
Police further allege the victim was later asked to meet the Hughes man and another unknown man at his Belconnen apartment on 27 April.
During the alleged confrontation, police claim the 30-year-old produced a firearm to intimidate the victim before the man was allegedly assaulted to the point of unconsciousness.
While the victim was unconscious, police allege the two offenders stole a number of items including a motorbike, mobile phones, jewellery, footwear and a drone, with the total value estimated at more than $20,000.
The victim later sought medical treatment and provided a statement to police.
On Monday, police executed a separate search warrant at a residence in Hughes, allegedly locating items believed to be connected to the incident, as well as a taser.
Police will also allege the Hughes man attempted to conceal his mobile phone during the execution of the warrant.
The 30-year-old faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with joint commission blackmail, aggravated robbery in company, choking a person insensible, concealing evidence and possessing a prohibited weapon without authorisation.
