The Matildas are returning to Canberra!

Football Australia has announced that Australiaโ€™s women’s national football (soccer) team the Matildas will play a match in Canberra later this year.

The Matildas will host Argentina in a two-match international series during the May/June FIFA Womenโ€™s International Window.

The series finale match at GIO Stadium Canberra, made possible through a partnership with the ACT Governmentโ€™s Events ACT, will run on Monday, 2 June at 7:30pm.

Another match will run in Melbourne, with both events giving fans across Australia the opportunity to support the Matildas as they continue their preparation on the road to the AFC Womenโ€™s Asian Cup 2026.

There are hopes Sam Kerr, who is currently sidelined by an ACL injury, will play in Canberra.

Australia and Argentina have previously faced off twice, including a 3-0 victory for the Matildas in Melbourne during the 2019 Cup of Nations.

ACT Deputy Chief Minister and Sport and Recreation minister Yvette Berry, said she was proud to welcome the Matildas back to Canberra.

โ€œAnd provide another opportunity to showcase our city to the world,โ€ she said.

โ€œWe have been supporting the Matildas for a long time and itโ€™s great to host them in what will be an important game against Argentina as they prepare for the AFC Womenโ€™s Asian Cup 2026.

โ€œAll of Canberraโ€™s many Matildasโ€™ fans will be looking forward to it and I encourage everyone to get your tickets early, so you donโ€™t miss out.โ€

Tickets will go on pre-sale for Football Australia Account Holders on Monday, 31 March 2025 at 10am with general public tickets available on Tuesday, 1 April at 4pm at Ticketek.

The match at GIO Stadium Canberra will run on Monday 2 June.
