Inquiries are continuing into the cause of a crash just east of Queanbeyan, in which three people died and four were injured.

Emergency services were called to the Kings Highway at Monga, 80km east of Queanbeyan, shortly after 5pm, Monday 9 March, and found two Hyundai hatchbacks had collided head-on.

A woman driving the eastbound and her front-seat passenger – believed to be a teenage girl – died, as well as a man who was a back-seat passenger in that vehicle. They are yet to be formally identified.

A second teenage girl, also travelling in the back-seat, was critically injured was airlifted to Canberra Hospital.

The driver of the westbound hatchback – a 31-year-old man – was airlifted to Westmead Hospital suffering serious injuries; a seven-year-old child from that vehicle was airlifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition.

A three-year-old child was taken to Canberra Hospital to be checked a precaution.

Officers attached to Monaro Police District established a crime scene with specialists from Southern Region Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) conducting the investigation.

The Kings Highway at Monga, east of Braidwood, remains closed in both directions near Tudor Valley Road. Motorists are urged to avoid the area as the road is expected to be closed for several hours. Check livetraffic.com for updates.
