A man has died following a head-on collision between a car and a truck on the exit ramp linking Gungahlin Drive to the Barton Highway on Friday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after midday, where a silver Audi travelling the wrong way on the off-ramp collided with a truck that was exiting the main roadway. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles, with the truck overturning and debris scattered across the area.
Firefighters worked to free the Audi’s driver, who was trapped inside. He received medical treatment at the scene before being transported to hospital, where he later died. Police have not yet formally identified the man.
The truck driver was able to get out of his vehicle but was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries described as non-life-threatening. Police said he was shaken by the incident.
ACT Policing confirmed the Audi had been seen earlier in the day during a pursuit in Belconnen, which was called off. Officers are also investigating whether the vehicle and its driver were linked to an alleged armed burglary reported at a currency exchange in Dickson shortly before the crash.
The exit ramp remained closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene and cleared the wreckage. Police are appealing for anyone with information or dash-cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
The fatality marks the ninth road death recorded in the ACT so far in 2025.
