Skyfire, one of Canberra’s most beloved events, returns this Saturday night, with the skies above Lake Burley Griffin set to light up in a spectacular fireworks show.
Here are a few things you should know about the event:
The fireworks
What is it: Put on by Hit 104.7 and Mix 106.3, it’s a free fireworks display featuring 40,000 pyrotechnic effects, 2,500 shells and 25,000 shooting comets.
When is it: It is on Saturday night, 15 March, with the fireworks display starting at 8:30pm and running for 20 minutes. Around 120,000 are expected to be at the show, so best to get in early if you want a good spot and have some food before the show.
Where is it: The fireworks display will be above Lake Burley Griffin with the main hub at Regatta Point.
The food
Food options will be available from 5pm and there is so much to choose from:
Regatta Point: Canan Turkish Gozleme, Dapto’s, Grease Monkey, Jacko’s Pizza, Mr and Mrs Wippy, Mr Kernal, The Original Fairy Floss Company, MegaSnacks, The Meat Wizard, Yummy Time Dumpling, Bells Amusements, Absolute Showbags, Brain Freeze Mobile Slushee, BZ Burger, Zomsa, Lozza Bells Gourmet Takeaway Food, Crazy Potato, Peter William Wark.
Rond Terrace: Bells Amusements, Darcitos, Delish Azz, Harmonie Club Catering, Glow Fairy Floss, Palacinke – Delicious Crepes, Safari Delight, MegaSnacks, Doing Donuts.
Kings Park: Bells Amusements, Cedar Husk Cafe, Mad Mack’s Grill, SL Karaitiana.
Commonwealth Place and Queen Elizabeth Terrace: The Local Village Markets will be open from 4pm to 8pm, with 23 stalls offering food, non-alcoholic drinks, and more!
What else?
Along with the fireworks, there will be a RAAF F-35A Lightning II flyover commencing at approximately 7:32pm.
Bring a radio along as the Skyfire 2025 soundtrack will be broadcast across 104.7 and 106.3.
There will be free travel on all Transport Canberra bus and light rail services from 5pm until last service.
The BOM is predicting a high of 35 degrees on Saturday so take care with the heat.
