Wild thunderstorms lash Canberra

The ACT State Emergency Service is responding to hundreds of calls after Canberra was belted with huge storms tonight, causing major issues across the city.

High winds, heavy rain and thunderstorms lasted some time and were felt anywhere from Gunghalin and Belconnen to Woden and Tuggeranong.

There have been reports of downed power lines, with several suburbs reporting lost power, while trees have fallen across the city, and trampolines have been blown into the street.

If you require assistance, call ACT State Emergency Service on 132 500, or in a life-threatening emergency call triple-zero (000). The SES attends the most urgent requests first, so your patience is appreciated. If you feel unsafe where you currently are, consider contacting or staying with friends or family.

A video posted to Facebook shows the carnage of fallen trees and branches in Tuggeranong near South.Point.

On Facebook, Sonal Singh posted a photo of a trampoline flipped over on the side of the road with the caption: ‘Anyone missing a trampoline in Dunlop?’
