Woman burned, stabbed during assault in Charnwood

A 52-year-old man has been arrested and will appear in the ACT Magistrate’s Court this morning after he allegedly assaulted a woman in Charnwood last night.

About 10.40pm yesterday, Wednesday 28 September, ACT Policing officers were called to a Charnwood residence after receiving reports of a woman screaming in her backyard.   

Passersby called Triple Zero (000) and reported a woman being assaulted in the rear yard of the residence. Operators immediately dispatched officers to the scene.    

The ACT Ambulance Service was also called to the scene where they treated the woman for serious burns, stab wounds and lacerations. ACT Policing officers apprehended a man a short time later.   

The man has been charged with aggravated intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm, aggravated use inflammable device (danger to life) and breach of good behaviour obligations.  

He is set to appear in the ACT Magistrate’s Court this morning, Thursday 29 September.  

The investigation is ongoing and police are appealing to anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the  Crime Stoppers ACT website.

In a media statement, ACT Policing reminded the community that everyone has the right to feel safe in their own home.
